The Maples Fish Platter

Here at The Maples we are often asked by guests, “where can we go to eat dinner?” This simple question can fill me with dread as it’s not as straightforward as it sounds.  There are a number of things to consider when looking at where to eat:

  • What type of food do you like to eat?
  • Is it a celebration meal or an everyday meal? …. and finally
  • How much do you want to spend?

One option is to pre-order one of The Maples locally sourced New Forest Marque platter.  We offer a choice of fish, cold meats or cheeses with salad, bread and chutney. These platters can make a meal for one or hearty snack for two.  Pictured is an example of our fish platter.  Further details can be found here.

Hythe is a wonderful place to live and we find one of the joys is that we can walk to a number of good restaurants, pubs and takeaways – There is something for everyone!

Here are our views of the local eateries that we have eaten in that are open evenings, in alphabetical order:

Ebenezers Pub:

This hidden gem of a pub is a free house with a good menu.  It is a converted chapel in the centre of the village which has an excellent range of beers, real cider and for us gin lovers; Lymington Gin!  The home cooked food never disappoints and there is no need for desserts as the portions are huge!

Forest Spice Restaurant:

This wonderful Indian restaurant/takeaway is always consistent. The food is flavorsome and the portions are big. The prices are very reasonable. It is a small restaurant so we strongly recommend booking for a Friday or Saturday night.

Lord Nelson Pub

This local pub has a lovely garden backing onto the Southampton Water and is a great place to watch the train going up and down the pier.  They serve traditional food and their Sunday roast dinner is very popular.  For sports fans, there is a TV, so no need to miss out on key sports fixtures!

As these popular eateries get rather busy especially at weekends, it is always advisable to book a table and don’t forget to mention that you are staying at The Maples. Bon appétit!
