Here at The Maples we believe that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. The Maples is on the door step of the New Forest, an inspirational landscape named by William the Conqueror in 1079. In the New Forest, we have a wide range of fantastic local producers who are passionate about their products. Guests at The Maples can look forward to fresh and locally sourced breakfasts and any combination of the New Forest Breakfast. Here are some of our suppliers:
Sausages and bacon:
Our local butcher Steve Taylor of Sargents Butchers in Dibden Purlieu supplies all our sausages and bacon. Sargents have an in-house recipe for their sausages that is a closely guarded secret. We think and a number of our guests agree that you’ll find no better sausage.
Eggs:
We love our eggs – no matter whether they’re boiled, scrambled, poached or fried! Our eggs come from Fluffetts Farm. They believe free range eggs should be produced the traditional way, by small flocks on carefully managed independent family farms.
Apple Juice:
Hill Farm has been pressing apple juice since the 1970’s. Hill Farm Juice is located in the South Downs National Park about 8 miles from Winchester. There is a micro-climate which (conveniently) is beneficial to the growing of excellent apples and pears. A perfect spot for juice making!
Coffee:
We source our coffee from The Winchester Coffee Roasters. The owner Mark, is proud to call myself a Specialty Micro Roaster, trained in Australia by one of the best Roasters in the Industry! They aim to supply only the highest quality beans available each season, with a preference for Certified Organic Fairly traded beans, helping to ensure the poorest farmers get a share of the market.
Marmalade/Jam:
Elizabeth makes our marmalade and jam in The Maples kitchen. In the summer months we visit Goodall’s Strawberries to pick our own strawberries and raspberries for our fruit jams.
Granola:
One of our personal favorites is our home-made granola with fresh fruit and YeoValley Greek with Honey yogurt. Here’s a link to my granola recipe.
Honey:
We buy our local honey from Ashlett Creek Producer. This artisan company along with collecting honey they also brew apple cider and mead.
If you would like to spend some time with us at The Maples please give us a call. We look forward to welcoming you!
