Eggciting times ahead…
Easter falls late this year, so plenty of time to plan for adventures.
Enjoy jam-packed family fun by joining the team at New Forest Activities and visiting Paultons Park, Calshot Activities Centre, Exbury Gardens, and more… We’re particularly excited to learn that 50 Years of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang is being celebrated at Beaulieu!
Have fun learning how to create artisan bread in a half day practical bread making class.
Oh Deer…
Few would not melt when viewing the wild herd of fallow deer in fields just a short stroll from the New Forest’s Boldwerwood car park. From Easter until mid-September Forestry Commission keepers feed the herd and you can take your chance at spotting them from a well-positioned viewing platform.
These deer are more fortunate than those around during the days of King William I, when the New Forest was designated as a royal hunting ground. Unfortunately, the King’s son, King William ‘Rufus’ II, fell foul of this when he was accidentally shot by an arrow during a deer hunting outing and his supposed resting place is marked in Canterton. It doesn’t take long to visit the ‘Rufus Stone’ so why not throw in some pub grub at The Sir Walter Tyrell (the pub hosts a great climbing frame for kids, while you sup a pint).
Oh Dear..
Valentine’s Day will be with us soon! 14th February (in case you need a reminder). If you’re wondering how to treat your loved one then how about a day or two at The Maples?
There are a wide variety of restaurants in and around Hythe that we’d be happy to recommend and book on your behalf. And if you really want to push the boat out you could take the Hythe Ferry to Southampton, or charter a trip (ask us about this in advance)…
And don’t forget, we can provide Valentine’s Vouchers for The Maples, to include in the card to your sweetheart.
Tune in before 9th February…
For those that missed the BBC documentary ‘New Forest: A year in the Wild Wood’, it’s still available on the BBC iPlayer until 9th February. See breathtaking footage of our National Park in all it’s dramatic glory.
And if you like a tune, you will be delighted to hear the restored bell ringing out over the parish from St. John’s Church opposite The Maples.
