Welcome to our Autumn edition of The Maples newsletter!
Hythe is such a magical place in the Autumn, with the ferry on hand to transport us over the water to the markets, shops and eateries of Southampton. There’s also the New Forest and beaches beckoning for wild walks, and local venues enticing us with gastronomic delights… In this edition of our newsletter we’ve given some information on just some of the treats available…
As you know we love feeding our guests with home cooked food, using local produce wherever possible and we’re particularly keen to use suppliers that have been endorsed by The New Forest Marque. One such supplier is the amiable Steve Taylor of Sargents Butchers who supplies us with all our sausages and bacon.
For members of The New Forest Marque there are networking events held every quarter and we were delighted to host the September event at The Maples. These events provide opportunities for producers, retail outlets and tourist accommodation providers to meet up to exchange ideas and find out what is going on in the Forest within a friendly and informal environment.

Thanks to all of you that took the time to send us an entry into our ‘fillable’ lamp competition. We’ve received a host of inspired suggestions – you really have made our job of choosing a winner incredibly hard!
But after much deliberation we have made a decision, and the winner is (drumroll please)…
… Lyn Thomas :-).
Lyn suggested that we use a selection of the dried goods that we use at breakfast, so coffee beans, brown sugar, oats and cornflakes. She’ll now be awarded a Complimentary Afternoon Tea For Two at The Maples.
Tea for two (or 15!)
Celebrating his 90th Birthday in style, Hythe resident William Irwin, welcomed 15 guests to his afternoon tea celebration here at The Maples during September. As we’re sure you can imagine, most nonagenarians will have a clear idea of what they like to eat and William is no exception. Tinned salmon sandwiches (with a dash of vinegar), Quiche Lorrraine and lemon curd tarts were requested and as per usual, we were more than happy to oblige.

Father Christmas will be making appearances at Longdown Activity Farm and Paultons Park for all those good children out there :-). And there’s also seasonal treats at Furzey Gardens if you keep ’em peeled. Their next event is an Autumn Colour Walk scheduled for 10th November.

A Taste of Italy
Gaze over the tranquil waters of Hythe Marina while you enjoy sophisticated Italian cuisine at La Vista. Proprietors, Kate and Nathan, oversee their long-established team of experienced chefs, who create Mediterranean masterpieces from Antipasti to Pizza. They’ve recently added some new dishes to their menu and we can’t wait to try them out (on behalf of our guests, of course!).
